In accordance to the International Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 as amended which established the minimum standard of competence for safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment and property, made the International Safety Management (ISM) Code mandatory.

What kind of People takes this course?

Persons/people, who before being assigned to ship board duties or persons assigned, employed or engaged on a seagoing ship that are require to monitor the safety and pollution-prevention aspects of the operation of each ship and ensuring that adequate resources and shore-based support are applied , as required.

What will I gain from this qualification?
Participant at this course will gain the knowledge, understanding and competence including practical knowledge in emergency preparedness, ship board operations, maintenance of ship and equipment, safety measures, pollution prevention, plan, conduct and manage internal safety audit program as well as understanding their duties and responsibilities.

The course covers the following;

  • Safety and environmental protection policy
  • Company responsibilities and authority
  • Designated person(s)
  • Master’s responsibilities and authority
  • Resources and personnel
  • Ship board operations
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Reports and analysis of non-conformities, accidents and hazardous occurrences
  • Maintenance of the ship and equipment
  • documentation

Course delivery: Using combination of competent and experienced instructors, classroom syndicate exercises interactive activities and practical training demonstrations.

Entry qualification?             

This course is open to all seafarers, owners of ship, personnel of maritime/shipping and allied industries, port and terminal operators  and all who are to be assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to cargo and cargo equipment / management of the safe operation of ships  as well as a  reasonable standard of written English.  

Course Duration: Three (3) working days.

Career Development: The International Safety Management (ISM) Code course will provide a basis for trainees to develop a career in in the development of safe operations of ship, requirements for safety and environmental protection.

 Assessment: The course is assessed at the end of the training
